Overview

Hands-on apiary visit with local apiarists: a short safety briefing and gear-up, then a calm approach using a smoker. Open a colony and handle frames to observe hive activity; identify workers, drones and the queen. Learn to check brood pattern and hive health with a varroa board demo, and see honey supers and cappings.

Watch uncapping and extraction, then filtration and bottling, followed by a tasting of raw honey varietals with tea-time snacks. Protective gear is provided and an allergy-safe zone and first-aid are available on site. Photos are allowed from a safe distance.

Is transport included for this experience?

No — transport is not included by default. You can add transport by turning on the area transport toggle in the booking section above. Once enabled, we can provide pickup and drop-off from any location in Sri Lanka. Transport is charged separately at 0.33 USD per kilometre, per vehicle.

Can we adjust the group size?

Yes — the booking selector shows the standard range of 2–45 guests.
If you have fewer than 2: choose 2 and state the exact number in the Notes.
If you have more than 45: select 45 and clearly state the real group size (for example “30 guests”) in the Notes. Pricing will be adjusted for larger groups and we will confirm final costs before payment.

How much do we need to pay before booking?

A deposit of 30% of the total booking cost is required after we confirm your booking (confirmation will be sent via WhatsApp or email). The remaining balance is paid as agreed before the experience. You may reschedule free of charge up to 24 hours before the experience start time.

What is included in the Beekeeping experience?

The Beekeeping experience includes hands-on training and tasting. Specifically:

  • Training kit — protective gear (veil/helmet, gloves), smoker, and basic hive tools for the session
  • Honey testing & tasting — sample tasting of different honey varietals with short explanations
  • Honey-based snacks — small treats made using local honey during tea time
  • Demonstrations — uncapping, extraction & filtration demo (photos allowed from a safe distance)
  • Takeaway — a small sample jar of honey to take home (subject to availability)

If you have allergies or specific dietary needs, please mention them in the Notes field when booking.

If we don’t speak English, can we get a translator?

Yes — mention your preferred language in the Notes section when booking the Beekeeping Experience. If a translator for your language is available, we will assign one. If not, your guide will still explain safety steps, hive handling, and honey sampling through clear demonstrations. For safety reasons, always follow the guide closely during hive activities.
